Steps on How to Register For a Mentor:
Mentors provide recommendations, suggestions, feedback, advice and most of all support throughout the process. However, they do not conduct research, develop any section of the plan or write the plan. To receive a mentor you must commit to completing and submitting your final business plan in the competition. Furthermore, you will be required to meet certain deadlines and check in points with your mentor.
Step 1: Register for the BYOBB. Here you will provide details about your team and let us know what you are looking for in a mentor. Click here to register
Step 2: Write and submit your short, one page vision paper. Download the template here and submit your final draft using the submission form at the bottom of this page by January 14.
Step 3: Wait to receive your mentor matching email in mid to late January.

Overview of the BYOBB®
The 16th annual Be Your Own Boss Bowl® is a business plan competition in which matriculated students, alumni, faculty and staff from all 17 schools and colleges within Temple, as well as Temple organizations (library, tech transfer, etc. ) compete for ten prizes, including a grand prize worth over $115,000 in cash, Microsoft products and professional services. The objective of the competition is to encourage the launch and sustainability of new small businesses and scalable entrepreneurial ventures by the Temple community. Along the journey, participants will learn about all aspects of entrepreneurship, make new networking connections and learn how to write highly strategic, comprehensive business plans.
You can do it, and we can help – you do not have to be a business school student or alum to place or win in this competition. In fact, BYOBB® winners have come from the College of Engineering, College of Liberal Arts, School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Tyler School of Art, Beasley School of Law among others. Please review this site carefully as it will provide critical dates, the business plan template, scoring sheet, rules and regs you’ll need to know in order to compete successfully.
In awarding the grand prize in the BYOBB®, judges will look for the most strategic, well thought out and comprehensive business plan. The strength of the idea or business concept itself is less important. Both “life style” businesses and true scalable entrepreneurial ventures are acceptable in the competition. Social innovation ventures (for and not-for profit) are also eligible.
Please note: All submissions are held in the strictest of confidence and remain your property.
